SOME MISTAKES LAST FOREVER (PART 2)

.........continued

Emeka had been found unconscious in an hotel room and had been rushed to the hospital. Apparently, he had been drugged and robbed by the prostitute he had slept with.

Kudirat fell to the floor in tears and confusion. It took her about two minutes to put herself together and reach for her car-keys.

At the hospital, she was welcomed with a more shocking news. Emeka had been diagnosed of Cirrhosis of the liver. His liver had been badly damaged by excessive drinking that the doctor recommended a liver transplant to save his life. The surgery would require him travelling to India that the entire cost was running into fifteen million naira and Kudirat had no idea how she was going to raise that huge amount of money within a short time considering her present financial predicament. So many thoughts swept through her mind. She thought of informing Emeka family about his situation but she was scared of them.

She had confided in her pastor, he encouraged her to let his family know as that was the right thing to do in such a situation; Hr even offered to go with her in order to strengthen her courage.

As expected, Emeka family were displeased to see her and we're more concerned about the were about of their son. When she broke the news to them, she was terribly tongue-lashed and accused of wanting to kill their son so she could use him for money rituals and enrich her pocket. Emeka's mother even attempted to assault her but was retained by the rest of the family. Kudirat and her pastor eventually fled due to fear of being harmed.

That night, Kudirat cried out her eyes. At that point, she wished she could take back the hands of time to when Emeka proposed to her so she could say no and run away so see wouldn't be in this mess.  Now she was on her bed crying and sweating profusely, doing series of calculations in her head on how she was going to raise the money but none of it was adding up. She had contacted her parents for help but they were not willing to drop a dime if she was going to spend it all on Emeka, instead they advised her to get a divorce. This further broke her heart. As much a Emeka had been a horrible person, she still loved him and didn't want to abandon him in such a helpless state. And if she did, the society would look at her as a wicked woman who abandon her husband in his time of great need. Moreover, she thought about her only son and didn't want him to go through the trauma of loosing his father at such an early and dependent stage of his life.

The mistake had already been made and turning back wasn't an option. She had made religious vows she had to keep. Then it all done on her.

"Some mistakes last forever", she said to herself as she finally fell asleep.
