SOME MISTAKES ARE FOREVER

Kudirat staggered as she saw another devastating bank alert, this man was about to ruin her. He had just yanked another hundred thousand naira from her account. That was the second time that week. When she confronted him the first time, He came up with his usual business related excuses but she knew he was lying and began an argument which escalated into a bitter quarrel. As he result he left the house that day without a word of were he was going to and didn't come back until the evening of the following day.

She knew this whole marriage to Emeka was a mistake but didn't want to admit it to herself or anyone. She was married to a loser who kept going from one business venture to another and failing at each endeavor, squandering her money in the process. He was a graduate of economics but refused to take up any paid job as he insisted that he didn't want to work for anyone. Thrice, Kudirat had secured well-paid jobs for him, the first one with the oil company she worked for, the second with a bank and the third with an airline but he turned all of them down. He keep saying he didn't want the pressure and frustration of working for someone else so he would rather keep trying his luck at business.

As a result, the whole financial was on Kudirat. She was working with an oil company and earned an enviable salary of six hundred thousand naira aside other financial benefits that came with the job but the money never seemed to be enough. She had to pay the house rent and service charges for their three bedroom flat at Ikoyi which amounted to over two million naira per year. She also had to pay the school fees of their 3year old son, cater for feeding, house and car maintenance and other miscellaneous expenses. As if that wasn't enough, Emeka had manipulated her to pay the fees of one of his siblings study abroad. He was also building a house for his parents and claimed that the building project was funded by money from his business but she knew it was all a lie because his business yielded next to nothing. He also had access to her credit cards and security pin giving him direct access to her funds. After tending to all these expenses, she had no money left for savings and investment so she often ran into financial trouble and had to borrow from time to time which eventually made her a topic of gossip among friends and acquaintances.

Emeka was into extra-marital affairs. He squandered her money on "side-chicks" and came back with one excuse or the other to get more money from her. She knew about his affairs but couldn't do anything about it. She couldn't dare complain to his family as they hated her because she was a Northerner and had disapproved of their marriage. It was same with her own family, they had disapproved of Emeka because he was Igbo. Therefore she couldn't confide in her own family because she was scared of being reprimand. Her friends had advised her to get a divorce but she didn't want that. She had grown up in a broken home and didn't want that for her only son. So she was willing to stay if not for anything but for the sake of her son.

As she walked around the living room thinking of how exactly to handle Emeka. She received a call that left her rather confused and agitated.
